For my first original entry to my Tumblr, I present “The Ballad of the Black Hole Sailor.”

OKAY. I’ve got an idea: I’m gonna write about why I wrote this song. Because I’m sure you all want to know.
It all started pretty simply: A friend of mine was performing some music, and I noticed that, in the light of that shadowy bar/pizza joint, her eyes appeared to be black. I got to thinking about black holes and their attractive powers, which seemed to be leading to a song about some seductive woman with black eyes, when all of the sudden…
CROSS-REFERENCE CREATIVITY
Some friends of mine were in a band called The Senate, and they wrote a drinking song called “Space Shanty,” which is about being a drunken, cosmic sailor in space. That song struck my mind in the midst of my writing process. And thus, the more I was thinking about black holes, the more I was thinking about what it would be like for a sailor to be stuck there. The seductive woman aspect vanished like dust into the wind, or like asteroid dust into the solar winds, if you like, and all I was left with was a sad ballad for a doomed cosmic sailor.
Therefore, my artistic method may be described as follows: “Go With It.”
