There’s A Hole In The World

Today I had the great pleasure of writing a song in the bounds of fifteen minutes. Granted, the general idea came several weeks ago. But it all came flowing out today in one swift motion.

In the heart of the world,
Your name left a hole
Surrounded by diamonds
And fossils and coal.
The Earth is collapsing,
And the cracks, they call came
From the hole in the world
In the shape of your name.

The traffic’s all gone,
The streets have been cleared
From out on the highway,
When our song disappeared.
My lips may be laughing,
But I know it’s no game:
There’s a hole in the world
In the shape of your name.

And all of your kisses
Have vanished like fire;
Time is just memory
Mixed with desire.
There’s room in my heart
For each grain of sand,
But there’s only so many
I can hold in my hand.

There’s a hole in my pillow
Where your head used to rest,
And one in the floor,
Where you used to get dressed.
My footsteps are careful,
But there’s no one to blame
For the hole in the world
In the shape of your name.
