This is a question I receive frequently, and I probably will continue to receive so long as I use it. But the answer is!
No. I hadn’t been consciously aware of Men Without Hats at the time I came up with this monicker, but I had undoubtedly heard Their Famous Song.
Where did it come from? Well, hard to say. I was going to a lot of open mics at the time, and I wanted to use a pseudonym. It was my intention to act contrary to the tropes and cliches that I saw in the open mic scenes of Seattle and Bellingham, and I guess this name came out of that.
